May Update at The Table!
Hey Church!
How quickly this year seems to be flying by. In the midst of it all God is still good.
We’ve been working through the beginning of the New Testament, focusing on Jesus’ start of His ministry. Pastor Christy opened May with the Sermon on the Mount, covering the beatitudes. She asked some great questions to get us thinking, “what are some things that happen on mountains in the Bible?
We’ve found time and time again going through the Bible in a year that scripture seems to reference itself and call back to moments in the Old Testament where God was faithful to his people even when they disobeyed Him. Pastor Trevor continued the Sermon on the Mount going through Matthew chapter 6. He asked us a trick question, “How can we be faithful in serving God, but maintaining our current lifestyle?” Our discussion time continues to be such a great way to break open the scripture and apply it to our lives.
At the end of May we had our first guest speaker, Jennifer Bentley, she brought us a great word on being Front Porch Friendly. She was the first of many guest speakers that we will host at The Table. Part of our mission is to innovate, and in doing so, we provide opportunities for licensed pastored in the ordination process on our district.
We wrapped up our last Youth Group for the summer playing fun games, enjoying food, and spending one last Wednesday with Pastor Ryan and his family. Megan was a teacher at the school we met at, so it was a great last hurrah. Just a few short weeks after, we sent four of those students with Pastor Christy to Elev8, our annual field event with churches from all over the southwestern most parts of the United States. It was a fantastic weekend at Point Loma Nazarene University as we partnered with Journey of Grace church and Tempe Nazarene. God moved throughout the chaos of that weekend!
We started to collect school supplies for our annual school drive for this coming school year. We’ve partnered with Jefferson, a Title 1 School here in Arizona, Title I is a federal education program that supports low income students throughout the nation. Funds are distributed to high poverty schools, as determined by the number of students who qualify for free or reduced lunch. We are looking forward to more ways to continue to support these students and teachers! You can support those local schools here!
District Assembly
had to be the highlight of the month for a multitude of reasons. Pastor Doug Pierce retired after 30+ years of faithful ministry, 12 of those being the District Superintendent to The Arizona District. We at The Table are so thankful for Pastor Doug and his support of our mission and vision. We elected Brad Estep as our new District Superintendent and we are excited for the future in Arizona.
Though all of the voting that took place that weekend was fun, what we are super excited about is the Ordination of our Pastor, Christy Williams, or might I say Rev. Christy Williams. After many years of faithful commitment to her education and her service to the Nazarene Church, the General Church of the Nazarene and General Superintendent Rev. Dr. Christian Sarmiento blessed and prayed over Rev. Christy granting her the rank of Elder in The Church of the Nazarene.
We are so very thankful to Pastor Christy for all that she brings to the table, pun intended, and we look forward to the many years of ministry service that she will continue to lead us in. I (Pastor Trevor), want to personally thank Christy for her commitment to love my children well, to help us become better leaders and teacher of the Gospel for all ages. She has challenged me to become a better Pastor, Husband, and Father. I am proud to work alongside you!
