June At The Table!
HOLY MOLY!
At dinner one night Carson asked my wife, “Mom, is the bible called Holy Moly?”
“No, it's the Holy Bible. Why?” She responded.
He didn’t respond, but said that it made sense. Later that evening she asked me so confused why he would think that, then it dawned on us. Pastor Christy has been such a blessing to our church as she brings innovative ways to equip families to share the Gospel with their children. Each Sunday during our kids lesson we watch a short video from Holy Moly, which grabs the attention of everyone in the room, and that friend is why Carson thinks the Bible is called, Holy Moly.
June
heated up quickly as we transitioned into meeting at The Messner’s home. Joel texted me just 45 minutes before church that first Sunday we were supposed to meet at his house saying their AC had possibly gone out and that we might need a quick backup plan. Thankfully through his quick thinking, and the goodness of God, the AC kicked into high gear and kept us cool that first Sunday. We started the summer with our second Worship and Prayer night. It was a fantastic Sunday where we worshiped through song, scripture, words of encouragement and prayer. We had an open forum of what God was doing in our lives, and a few people shared some We’ve continued our journey of One Story One Year as we tackled the scripture from start to finish.
Seven days before youth camp a student from our MCA youth group reached out saying they wanted to go to camp. Long story short, they connected really well with a few students from other Nazarene churches in our district after the Elev8 trip in California, and after texting with them he made the commitment to go to camp. With less than seven days before camp was to begin we took on the challenge of raising funds to help scholarship this student and found a church who would drive them up and house them. Within five days, we had plans to send him with Phoenix First Church of the Nazarene and raised over $200 to make camp affordable! He had such an amazing life changing week filled with worship, connection with fellow believers, and a ton of fun!
Ali Gafford,
She grew up at Phoenix First Church of the Nazarene, but is currently serving in Hawaii as a children’s pastor and preschool teacher. She was our guest speaker this month and really challenged us to look at Christ’s crucifixion story through the eyes of Barabbas, and how sometimes, we might just be him. Ali asked us some great questions that challenged us in the discussion time. What is something you’re holding onto that God isn’t? You can listen to it down below. It has continued to be such a blessing to be a church that shares the pulpit with pastors as they grow as leaders. Check out I Am Barabbas from Ali’s sermon!
Service Sundays
Every 5th Sunday we as a church have committed to serving our community. When we planted this church we wanted to be sure that our people understood that worshiping God could be done in more ways than just Sunday church. This month we invested into our friends at The Mesa Christian Academy, they have so many projects on campus that overwhelm the already underpaid staff at the school. In fact, most of the hard labor is done by the director's husband free of charge.
Our church showed up! We took on the challenge of resealing the floor in the main worship, play, and lunch space inside the multipurpose room. Our kids did such a great job taking the floor apart for our people to clean and then reseal the floor tiles for the coming school year. We were also able to bless the school with a $500 donation for the school to use for whatever needs might be needed, like new lunch tables, library shelves, or a free dinner for the school staff. We love our partnership with the MCA and cannot wait to see what God does through them this coming school year.
